I think of it as "What's for dinner bingo"
Most of the items are about to expire, but perfectly good, especially if you are going to freeze or cook them the same night. Hmm...What can I do with turkey gravy, a raisin bagels, and ham steak?

Me and F & E have a thing going! There's one at the end of our block and I can go in, spend $20 bucks and come out with the most amazing basket (I take my own basket in with me, fill it and that's my cue to stop shopping). One day, before the holidays, at the discount rack, I got 10 bags of dried fruit trail mix....raisins, golden raisins, cranberries, apricots...all packaged in little single servings, 10 to a bag for (drum roll here) .20 (twenty cents) I immediately made some oatmeal cookies (smittenkitchen.com) and then I made 2 more batches and gave away a couple of bags too! I still have a few of those packs and I think I'm going to soak the fruit in a chardonnay and combine them with some cous cous done in chicken stock. I feel like I have hit the lottery if I go in and there's a lemon/garlic rubbed chicken on the discount. As it is, some stuff HAS to be on that rack, or I ain't spending. I can always count on poke, some salad, fresh herbs, and now and then cheese! The trick here at my store is to go at 9:30 at night. Once, I got a package of 6 lamb loin chops for 2.80. And I can always find a loaf of bread for cheapo. I don't know who's baking for F & E, but I like the rye! love the baguettes!
